My name is Rosemary Kay (Jackson) Tompkins, Noah. I have lived in the Carthage/ Mays area all of my life. I attended Carthage School through the 4th grade. I attended Mays High School through my junior year. Mays consolidated my junior year and I graduated from Rushville Consolidate4d Schools in 1967. I married Johnny Tompkins in 1967 and we have two sons, Johnny and Steven. They also had the privilege of attending Mays Elementary School. I have four grandchildren. In 2006, I married Jim Noah. I have three step-children and four step-grandchildren.
My mother, Beulah Jackson lives with Jim and I, she is 92 years old. I built a new house in my parent’s woods. I love cooking, collecting recipe books and recipes, gardening, canning, sewing, crocheting, puzzles, reading, crafting, singing, and song writing, and church. I especially love the time I get to spend with my grandchildren, family, friends, and church.
My past jobs were writing articles for newspapers, RCA in Indianapolis, cooking at Mahoning Valley Church Camp and a cook at Rushville Junior High for six months, Cafeteria Manager at Mays Elementary for five years, and custodial supervisor at Benjamin Rush Middle School for twenty years. I retired with 30 years of experience from Rush Co. Schools.
Patty and I began working together in 1990 at Mays Elementary 37 years ago. Gerald Mohr, Principal. Encouraged me that I could manage the cafeteria, so our journey began. Patty and I learned a lot together and Gerald was a great support and encouragement as he always said, “It is all about the children.” He trained us well. Well, here we are again repeating history! We are so blessed to be able to return together and serve the children we love, doing what we love at a school that we love. We really enjoy working with this “Great Mays Academy Team” who also believes that “It is all about the children.”
